The Team Concept

Each grade level is comprised of three teams: one for Gifted students and the other two for Academically Talented students.  These students rotate among the core academic classes, physical education/health, and an elective.  Each grade level has its own Profession Learning Comunity Administrator, who oversees the day-to-day operations of each grade level and provides the instructional leadership and professional development.

As part of its commitment to preparing students for higher learning, James Weldon Johnson offers a distinct college-readiness path:

  • 6th grade - Introducing Jacksonville colleges and careers
  • 7th grade - School hosts state colleges
  • 8th grade - Out-of-State College Tour
